Quilting On The Go
Posted by Elizabeth Gude on 3rd Jun 2023
The world is finally settling back to normal and gone are the days of quarantine quilting. As we adjust back into this normal we may find ourselves signing up for more classes, retreats, or sewcations. We are excited to get back out and sew amongst friends, families and other creators in our communities.. but we are soon reminded of how difficult it is to lug around all of our tools. Sewing machines, seam rippers, threads, rulers, cutting mats, irons… the list goes on for what seems like forever.
Here is my curated list of all things “Quilting On the Go”. These products have made my life easier while participating in family sew nights and three day retreats at my LQS.
1.) Let’s start off with the BIGGEST and HEAVIEST thing you have to transport back and forth… Your machine!! Your sewing machine can prove to be quite difficult and dangerous to move around. You have invested a pretty penny in this machine and the last thing you want to do is risk dropping it. Sewing Machine Cases protect you and your machine.

Not only do these nifty rolling cases house your machine but they often have several other compartments to store your smaller notions such as scissors, seam rippers, etc.
These can be quite expensive so keep an eye out for sales and coupons through Joann or Sewingmachinesplus.com
2.) This next item is probably my FAVORITE thing ever. Take the hassle out of bringing along your cutting mats, rulers and wool mats with this Gypsy Quilter Toteology bag.
This thing has space for ALL the things.. even your spray bottle!
3.) Why bring 100 rulers when you can bring ONE?! The Stripology XL ruler is absolutely incredible! I am able to cut out a whole quilt in no time at all. If you have been on the fence with this one, take the leap and go for it.. My good quilty friend heavily encouraged me to grab one and it’s been one of the best purchases I have ever made.

BONUS** This giant ruler fits perfectly in the large center compartment of the previously mentioned Toteology bag.
4.) Project bags are SO worth the investment. Use one to safely transport your blocks or keep several in your sewing room to organize your different WIPS.

I hope this list helps take some of the guess work out of trying new to you products. Treat yourself to convenience and let me know if you have any recommendations for notions that make it easier to Quilt On the Go.
