Introducing Cotton Cuts Ambassador Amista

Meet Amista Baker! She is one of our Modern Maker box ambassadors!

Amista just joined Cotton Cuts as an ambassador and her first box will be in October! She was selected from a very long list of talented sewists. We wanted our members to get to know Amista a little better, so we asked her a few questions:

How long have you been sewing?

I have been sewing for 11 years. It was not something I ever thought I’d love to do!

How did you learn to sew?

I am self-taught! I actually started with bag making because I thought quilting would be too difficult.

What is your favorite thing to sew?

I still love making bags the most, but quilts fight for my attention as well.

What is your favorite thing about sewing?

Sewing is a relaxing and stress relieving hobby for me. I love the feeling of having created something myself.

What is your favorite item you have ever sewn?

I would have to say my Tula Pink City Sampler is hands down my favorite handmade item. It’s so vibrant and colorful and so much work went into it. I spent 100 continuous days making the blocks for an Instagram challenge.

Share something interesting with us?

No one in my family (mother or fathers side) was a quilter. I had never even used a sewing machine when I decided I wanted to learn. My sister in law was selling an old Kenmore machine for $50 and my husband bought it for me and taught me how to thread it. The rest is history!
