Introducing Cotton Cuts Java Ambassador Isabelle
17th Jan 2020
Meet Isabelle! She is our first Java box ambassador!
Isabelle has just joined us and her first Java box will ship out in February! She was selected from a long list of talented and creative sewists. To get to know Isabelle a little better, we’ve asked her a few questions:
How long have you been sewing?
I first learned to sew fifteen years ago, when I was 25. After a year or so of making quilts, I stopped for about ten years. I discovered modern quilting in 2016, jumped in and haven't looked back. I love it!
How did you learn to sew?
My mom taught me to make a rag quilt as a gift for my friend's baby on the way. I got a sewing machine for Christmas shortly after and jumped right into sewing more quilts and collecting fabric. I used lots of online tutorials, joined a few swaps, and tested some quilt patterns, to challenge myself to try new techniques.
What is your favorite thing to sew?
I love making quilts, but bags and embroidery have recently caught my eye as well.
What is your favorite thing about sewing?
It still feels like such a feat every time I finish a project. To go from folded fabric and spools of thread to a finished quilt, project, or bag, feels magical.
What is your favorite item you have ever sewn?
My Spring In Charleston quilt. My kids love to snuggle up under it, and we've shared lots of family picnics on this quilt. So many great memories!
Share something interesting with us?
I started sewing and quilting as a way to save money on Christmas gifts (as a stay at home parent, money was tight and I had a sewing stash from years earlier just begging to be used) and kept doing it as a creative outlet. I was able to carve out a little "me time" at the end of the night, which was so relaxing! Sewing has helped me build confidence, develop friendships, and learn the skills I need to make projects I love.
