Projects, Auctions, and DIY Garland
25th Mar 2020
We want to say thank you to everyone that has sent us well wishes during this crazy time. Like many small businesses right now, Cotton Cuts is trying to help our employees during this time of quarantine. We've come up with an idea for a win-win situation
Our employees are amazingly talented! We’ve made our Cotton Cuts products available to them to create with. Over the next several days, you will see blog posts of their projects as well as an auction for them. With each item up for auction will be a Cotton Cuts membership as well! The employee making the item and auctioning it will get to keep the money to help their family. The auction winner will have an amazing project made by one of us and a 3-month Cotton Cuts membership to that product!
In the meantime, I have a super fun and easy project to share with you all.
Fabric Scrap Garland
Supplies needed:
- Cotton Cuts PMQ Scrap Bag
- Scissors
- Twine, string or ribbon (I used 36” of twine)
Directions:
- Sort the contents of the scrap bag. You want the long scraps that were from the die-cut clues. Put the smaller scraps to the side for a future project. If you stretch out your die cut pieces, they will look something like the “windowpane” image here.
- Cut along the top and bottom to create strips. Don’t worry if they aren’t the same size. If they are too wide for your taste, cut them in half. Or make a slit and tear them in half. This creates a more scrappy look. (I cut mine. I also didn’t cut off any of the jagged edges. When they are pushed together, you don’t see them)
- Use the numbered photos to loop the fabric around the twine. Or feel free to make any knot you prefer.
- As you tie each knot be sure to pull tightly so they are stable. Repeat this process of tying the fabric and knotting each tie until you have filled the length of your twine. Leave room on each end to attach your project and display your creative work!
This is a fun project that anyone can enjoy. If you cut the strips, even young children can make knots and be proud of their finished project. This is also a great fine motor skill activity.
If you make a garland, we’d love to see it! Post them to Instagram or our Facebook page or group and tag @cotton_cuts.
Be sure to check back here soon for the auction projects! We can’t wait to share them with you all. Thank you again for your amazing support. We couldn’t do what we do without members like you!
