Floral States of America

Posted by Robyn Thomas on 6th Aug 2024

The crowds are going wild for our latest project at Cotton Cuts -- Floral States of America.

Our latest special project at Cotton Cuts is bringing together so many things that today's quilters just love. Pre-cut pieces of high-quality fabrics that methodically put together a gorgeous quilt. It's a fun monthly project, not too much commitment each month to keep up, sewing just five blocks with each shipped monthly package.

Each block represents a US state, depicting the state's flower. And in the end, 50 blocks will come together to create a beautiful quilt using 50 floral designs. You will be amazed at the final result. What a wonderful final project to share with loved ones, while learning and sharing fun information about each state of our union.

One of our favorite Cotton Cuts Ambassadors, Martha of Martha's Creative Life, is sewing Floral States along side you each month. You can find her channel on YouTube and check in with her each month while she puts each five state package together. (Don't worry, if you are late to the party, Floral States is still available and between the fantastic Cotton Cuts team and Martha, we will get you caught up.)

We recently checked in with Martha to get her observations on her Floral States, package one.

Hey Martha, what did you think about your first Floral States?

"When I opened the package, it was just as I expected from Cotton Cuts. The state blocks are very organized and beautiful in presentation. Everything is placed perfectly in the enclosure. The contents are not just thrown into the bag - care goes into each package."

Which block did you sew first?

I started with Delaware first since it is the first state! I plan to sew each block in order, just for fun!

Which fabric is your favorite so far?

I love Connecticut’s flowers. I love daisies.

Which block was your favorite? Easiest to sew? Most fun?

Each block offers a unique challenge since every block is different than the rest. I think since I’m not the best at sewing flying geese it was my favorite. Each stitch gives us more experience to become a better quilter.

What attracted you to this Cotton Cuts project and got you excited about participating?

Kim, the owner of Cotton Cuts, reached out to me last year asking if I would like to be a part of a special project in 2024! Of course I said yes! I love all things flowers so this project spoke to my heart and what’s even better is that it involves our United States of America!

As if sewing these beautiful blocks together isn't thrilling enough, there is also a color challenge going on with each month of sewing. You can check out those details on our website. And watch as our participants color along each month. Who doesn't love to get out their colored pencils or markers and let those creative juices flow? Added bonus, prizes. Check out all of those details here: Floral States Color Challenge

You can check in with Martha every month on her channel to see how each block comes together, or to ask her any questions as you work through your blocks. Find her here: Martha's Creative Life

And for all of the information you need to know about this great project, hear directly from Kim on our LIVE broadcast, which introduced Floral States when we first began. See Kim's description right here: Floral States
