Meet Daisi!

Hello!

I am Daisi, 30 and I live in New Jersey.

Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I am married and I live with my husband and 3 cats. My full-time activity is quilting and sewing, but I also love cooking and driving.

However, I haven’t always been a quilter. I have a Master’s Degree in Finance, and I am an Economist. For almost 10 years, I worked in the financial area, but after realizing that career was not what I wanted to live off of, I decided to quit, and that’s how sewing and quilting came into my life.

I have always loved crafting. I have several watercolor and acrylic paintings of my own all over my house, I crochet, knit and love basically anything that can be done by crafting with my own hands. My last new and favorite skill I’ve learned is quilting, about 18 months ago.

In 2014/2015, I started watching video tutorials for sewing bags, all types of it, cases, purses, clutches and I didn’t have a sewing machine yet. I watched the videos for over a year, when in February 2016 my husband, that was my boyfriend then, gave me my first sewing machine (I had to marry him, he is the special reason I found out what I want to do for the rest of my life!).

I started making bags from the tutorials I had watched, and after a couple months I was making my own patterns. I also participated in several craft shows all over New Jersey, but just about 18 months ago I started making quilts.

After the pandemic hit, I was exhausted of making masks (I donated and sold over 4K masks!), I decided I needed something new, I went back to the video tutorials and finished my first quilt top in one week! I made a giant bed size that took me almost until recently to have it quilted.

In the course of these 18 months I have fallen in love with free motion quilting, and the only quilt I have had quilted by a long arm service is my very first one. I have completed over 30 quilts to date and over 50 mini quilts, and have learned a lot about several topics inside the quilting world. I love making mini quilts, quilted postcards, table runners, wall hangers, but my favorite ones are baby and throw size quilts and most recently, quilted pillows.

I still love making bags and have been making them once in a while. I also design quilt patterns and I have the pleasure of working with companies in the fabric, thread and crafting industries which makes me immensely happy and motivated every day.

Hope my story of having learned absolutely everything I know online, following other people that also started by themselves like me has inspired you, I am very happy to share everything I know and let shine my love for quilting into other hearts like one day many wonderful quilters have inspired me.
